The Western Colorado University Nordic Team skied exceptionally well this weekend at the Stagecoach Classic 15km ski race in Winter Park, CO. The United States Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA) Rocky Mountain Conference uses this event as a qualifier for Nationals, and teams from the University of Wyoming, Colorado College, Air Force, and Colorado Mesa were present to compete at a high level. The Western women’s team took home the team title with a strong win from freshman Anna Johnson. She was followed by freshman Rya Berrigan in 2nd place, and freshman Lexie Abric in 8th place. Rounding out the scoring for Western, sophomore Eleanor Skinner provided a strong finish as well. The women’s team is looking to make a run at a National Championship this season, and these results provided a shot of confidence for this young team.

The Western men performed at a high level as well, also taking the team title for the race. Led by seniors Nate Maddox and Kevin Geisen in 4th and 5th place respectively. Behind the seniors, Derek Hill and Gordon Gianniny, both juniors took 7th and 8th place respectively. Many other Western men performed well, and are looking to strengthen an already strong team. Indeed, the men’s team also has the goal of winning at the National Championships in March.

The Nordic Team will be traveling to the Grand Mesa this upcoming weekend (January 27th-28th) for a two more USCSA Regional Qualifiers. Go Western!
