Nordic Ski Team Ends Successful Regular Season

Nate Maddox of Western!

The Western Nordic Ski Team competed this past weekend in Laramie, WY at the University of Wyoming events. Western was led by senior Samantha Maddox with a strong showing in the skate team sprint, and the 21km skate events. Maddox placed 3rd both days to lead the Western women to a successful weekend of racing. On the men’s side, Nate Maddox led the way with two 2nd place results. Of note, both Samantha and Nate (siblings) won the regular season points series for the USCSA Rocky Mountain Conference, and took home the ‘Leader Bibs’ to showcase their incredible (and consistent!) regular seasons. Well done!

Justin Sanchez, a freshman from Minnesota, skied exceptionally well in the 21km mass start skate race on Sunday, which led to a strong top 12 showing. Gordon Gianniny remained strong and consistent (yet again!) and skied to two solid top 10 results as well. On the ladies’ side, freshman Eleanor Skinner showcased her growth as an athlete with a strong showing on the weekend as well.

Looking ahead, the team is in their final preparations for the USCSA National Championships in Bend, OR from March 5th – 11th. Look for the team to bring home solid results from Nationals. #GoWestern
