Alpine Ski Team Tackles Regionals

The Western Colorado University Alpine Ski Team competed in the USCSA Western Regional Championships February 23rd-25th. Regionals were held at Brundage Mountain Resort in McCall, Idaho. Ski teams from across the Northwest and Rocky Mountain conferences competed to earn a spot a National in Bend, Oregon. Fifteen teams brought their top five/six skiers to the race. The fastest three times from each team are used to calculate the team’s overall score.

Jamie Sitter had two clean, fast runs earning her 26th place. Carley Clegg followed in 40th. Carmen Smith had an unfortunate mishap and hiked for a gate, but still finished in 54th overall. Lindsey Herman was in 51st after her first run. The ladies team bumped up a place and finished in 6th for the slalom race. Unfortunately, it wasn’t fast enough to qualify for Nationals. The men’s team finish in 8th for the slalom race. Jack Farrell finished in 26th, followed by Jacob Saldi in 42nd and Beck Heidmous in 43rd.

Only the third gate out of the start and Elle Truax found her line.

After the weekend was finished and all the points counted, Western’s ladies finish in 7th overall as a team and the men finished in 10th overall. The Alpine Ski Team athletes raced some of their best runs of the season. Everyone finished every run that they started, which in ski racing is a very hard thing to do. Great work Alpine! #GoWestern
